Legend tells that once a forester, a true master of his craft, caught the eye of a dog with amazing qualities of a clever hunter who was able to bring various things from any cache. Inspired by such successes of the animal, the hunter argued with the crowd that his pet would even find a silver coin in a difficult forest to pass and asked his assistant, a boy, to hide a coin. But the guy put the money in his pocket. The dog first ran out of the forest with nothing. Then the surprised hunter once again gave the task to the animal. The dog ran to the dishonest guy and pulled him by the scruff to the owner. Since then, the breed has received the name Boykin Spaniel, precisely because “battle” in translation from English means “boy”. According to a more traditional version, the breed was founded by Vitaker Boykin from South Carolina at the end of the 19th century. The blood of a boykin spaniel contains a mixture of the qualities of other spaniels and cockers.

Boykin Spaniel is an animal of strong physique, balanced and compact format, growth ranges from 36 cm to 46 cm with an average weight of about 15 kg. The dog’s head is expressive, its muzzle is wide. The breed is part of the family of spaniels, which are distinguished by characteristic features - hanging elongated ears, smart kind eyes and a tail, which the boykin spaniel always wags amiably. The color of the animal is often monophonic in brown tones - from light to dark chocolate. White spots on the chest and white socks may be present. To date, the breed is divided into two types - short-haired and long-haired.
