Well-fed carcasses of chickens, selected pieces of beef, fresh grains, and all the healthy food for your dog or cat that you might ever need.

These images feed manufacturers unveil through the media and advertising. This is what the US $ 16.1 billion per year feed industry wants consumers to believe in what they buy when they buy their products.
This report examines the differences between what consumers think, what they buy and what they actually get. It focuses in its most general terms on the most visible brands of manufacturers - brands that are massively distributed in supermarkets and stores - but there are many more respected brands that may be guilty of the same violations.

American Bulldog today.
The breed American Bulldog in Russia is currently undergoing fundamental changes. There were practically no pioneers of the breed among existing breeders and nursery holders. Most dogs carry the blood of several American bulldogs introduced at one time, which cannot but affect the population of ambuli within Russia as a whole. The problems of many dogs, both externally and in the field of health, extend from some common ancestors, inbreeding on which was inevitable due to the small number of livestock in Russia (CIS) and, often, a thoughtless approach to breeding a new popular breed.
American Bulldog. A few answers to many questions.
Creation of the ideal.
The ideal is almost impossible to achieve. You can strive for it. We must strive for it. It is necessary to strive for it.
Virtual Exhibition - December 2009

To pass it, you can go to the "polls" section or vote directly on the main page - the poll block is on the right-)

Logical thinking test

The test consists of 30 points. Each item has the form:

- Condition
a. first consequence
b. second consequence
c. third consequence

A “condition” is a condition of a problem, some circumstances that are previously considered to be somehow proven and always true.
A “consequence” is a logical consequence of a condition. Of the three consequences, one and only one is correct. Your task is to test your ability to separate the correct logical consequences from the wrong ones.

American bulldog, or, as it is often called, ambul - a breed of dogs, known from the end of the XIX century. The American Bulldog is one of the closest, almost untouched relatives of the old English Bulldogs. After appearing on American soil, this breed was used for its intended purpose and did not undergo such changes as in Europe. The American Bulldog is a truly unique breed.

This uniqueness arose due to changing trends in the breeding of these dogs, because of the difference that existed in the requirements for both physical or structural characteristics, as well as for mental characteristics or characteristics of temperament. The American Bulldog has been bred for a long time, moving from one form to another. He was called “bulldog”, “rural bulldog”, “Old English white”, and today - the American bulldog. Throughout this time, the breed was used for various purposes, and its structure and temperament, respectively, reflected such differences.

Over the past 40 years or more, there have been two of the most different types of American bulldogs. One type of larger, more powerful dog with a shorter muzzle and more developed protective qualities, which we now often call the Johnson or Classic type. Another type of smaller, more athletic dogs with a longer elongated face and a pronounced instinct for pursuit - this type today we often call the Scott type or the Standard type. Both of these types are equally true American bulldogs. The difference in their appearance and temperament is due to their different purpose and application.

Dogs like Johnson, or Classic, were used for a long time as house guards and companions, while dogs like Scott or Standard were used as a "dog-dog" (to keep the beast) or as working farm dogs. In the last 10 years, there has been a tendency to mix these two types, which leads to a more powerful variation of the Standard Type dog. These dogs are often called the "hybrid / mixed" type. And since dogs of this type have not received a separate official name, they are referred to as a variation of the Standard type. The goal for breeders to obtain dogs of this “hybrid” type is to obtain dogs that are slightly more powerful than the Standard type, while retaining athletic capabilities.

Such breeding also involves the improvement of protective qualities while maintaining the desire to pursue the inherent etching dog, which ultimately leads to a versatile working, security and sports dogs. The American bulldog is now completely safe from extinction as a breed, and is very popular both in the country of origin and abroad as a working dog or just as a family friend. In many countries of the world, the amule was used as a hunter for wild boars, or a working dog for guarding farms and ranches, nowadays it is a service dog or a bodyguard dog.

If you show American bulldogs of different types to an ignorant person, he may not believe that they are representatives of the same breed. The "Americans" of the Classic type are powerful and expressive, while the "standard" are lighter, more athletic, their muzzle is longer and does not have such a pronounced "stop" as the "classics". Therefore, when choosing a future puppy, familiarize yourself not only with standards (often the “smart” words used by professionals to describe exteriors seem too complicated for beginners), but also with photographs of different types and colors of American bulldogs. Today in Russia there are dogs of the classic, standard and mixed type, each of the types has its own fans. Of course, many nurseries specialize in breeding one or another type of bulldog. But every year the difference in these tapas is becoming less noticeable. In Russia, the National Breed Club has developed a unified standard for the American Bulldog.

Origin history

The history of the breed begins in the depths of centuries and dates back to the 4th century BC. The American Bulldog was introduced to the British Isles, and it was only in the 18th century that these dogs came to America. But to say that the breed has not changed is wrong.

Initially, it was working, and it was used mainly to help protect and livestock. Dogs were distinguished by their courage and endurance, which was the reason for organizing such a spectacle as dog fights, an American bulldog for these purposes was the best option. But over time, these events were banned, and the animals returned to their duties. They were even called rural bulldogs.

To date, the American bulldog for many is not only a devoted and loyal friend, but also a defender of the family. The generally accepted standard was updated in 2005. In addition, these seemingly formidable dogs can win hearts, and their popularity is constantly growing throughout the world.

Breed characteristics

American Bulldogs are one of the few breeds that combine an impressive appearance, impeccable performance, a balanced character and a cheerful disposition. They have absolutely no aggression against loved ones, they are distinguished by a sharp mind and impressive strength.

This dog is designed for home, even where there are small children. Restless temperament, mobility and dexterity, stable psyche and companionable qualities make this breed impeccable. The description of the lives of these dogs in families and the good reviews of the owners can be found not only in clubs or breeders, but also on specialized Internet sites dedicated to these animals.

Appearance and standard

Today, two types of breed are known - this is the classic Johnson type and the standard Scott. The standard type is distinguished by lighter, athletic representatives who have an elongated muzzle. The classic type has a powerful physique, short face and excellent security features. Color is allowed from completely white to tiger, brown, red and fawn.

The breed standard does not accept a completely black color. An unbalanced, overfed or lean bulldog also does not match what the standard should be. In these animals, the hair is short, and it is soft and hard. Males at the withers are about 58-68 cm, females - no more than 66 cm. The weight of the English bulldog is from 37 to 56 (males) and from 26 to 46 (females). The life expectancy of dogs of this breed reaches 12-17 years.

The American Bulldog is a loving and loyal pet who will always act as a reliable guard. He may be wayward and prefer dominance, therefore, such a dog should be raised from early childhood.

This breed lends itself perfectly to training. Therefore, if an American Bulldog puppy has appeared in your house, then from the first day you need to establish friendly relations with him and accustom yourself to obedience and respect. Representatives of this breed are of such a nature that, if necessary, to do something, they can disobey. Therefore, you should be consistent and persistent.

It is worth noting that there are some representatives of the breed who do not get along with same-sex brothers. A poorly trained or unruly American bulldog can injure another animal and even kill it. Therefore, it is important to educate the character and behavior of the dog in severity.

Home Conditions

An American bulldog is a dog that does not need special care. It is necessary to monitor the coat as necessary. To do this, it is enough to comb it with a natural brush. You can bathe the dog no more than once every six months. Eyes and ears are wiped as necessary with special tools that can be purchased at a specialized store.

It is important to provide the dog with long and productive walks, and they are measured not in the number of hours, but in the mileage that you will overcome together during the walk. It is also worth paying increased attention to the diet of the animal. It should be noted that the dog of this breed is strong and quite hardy, adapts to any conditions. But, if the aviary is on the street, it is necessary to properly and thoroughly equip it so that the animal is not in constant cold and damp.

The American Bulldog has a short coat, which does not need special care, but regular shedding requires regular combing. Every 7-10 days, the dog needs to cut its nails, if they do not grind enough naturally. You also need to clean your ears to prevent allergies or infections.
You can learn more about the pet from the video by Cats & DogsTV.

Optimal diet

Puppies of the American Bulldog need a complete diet, like any other dog. Feeding is the basis of health, appearance and harmonious development of the pet. Choosing such a breed, it is worth considering that this is a working dog, which has large sizes and athletic muscles. Therefore, saving on feed is not worth it, especially since, judging by the reviews of the owners, it can affect the life span of the animal.

If you prefer industrial feed, then the optimal diet is easy to calculate by studying the description on the package. Provided that the dog will receive home-made food, dry food will go as a supplement and their norm will be reduced by half.

Puppies of the American bulldog in the first year of life should receive a balanced diet. It is important to consider the following: nutrition should contain at least 30% protein. Feed the dog only meat is not recommended. You can not overfeed the puppy, avoid an overdose of vitamins and calcium. It is imperative to monitor your diet and meal times.

Possible diseases

American bulldogs are prone to certain types of diseases, which are manifested in the following:

  • deafness,
  • twist of the century
  • crayfish,
  • Hip growth defects
  • stenosis of the aorta of the lung,
  • allergic reactions
  • reduced immunity
  • joint dysplasia.

In addition, representatives of this breed have difficulties during childbirth and they often have a cesarean section.
The reviews of the owners who chose the American Bulldog breed are more than positive. Thousands of comments that praise the dog for his character, devotion and fearlessness speak about one thing - this dog was created for the family and for guarding the house.

American Bulldog breed history

← Dementra Ascabana Guard. Owner Kozlova E.

If you closely follow our publications, you should remember the detailed description of the history of the English Bulldog. (You can read this article on our website in the section "English bulldog") And for those who have not read this text, we recall briefly: the ancestors of the bulldogs were the so-called bullenbeysers, dogs, designed to hunt animals and hunt sports “fun” mobiles.

Fighting bulls with dogs is the most disgraceful page in the history of mankind, the brutal, bloody "sport" of commoners. Under the boom and hoot of a not sober crowd, two angry animals converged in a deadly battle, and all ended in terrible injuries and (almost always) the death of one of the participants in this battle. Bets were made, bets were made, and if the bullenbeyser, or, as they began to call him later, the bulldog (English Bull dog - a bull dog) died, his brother fell into his place.

Intoxicated by excitement, the owners did not spare either the bulls or their dogs. Fortunately for animals (and for you and me!), Dog baiting in England was banned in 1835, and the further development of the English Bulldog breed continued quite differently. Initially, breeders did not pay attention to either genetics, health, or aesthetic appeal of the exterior - a “bull” dog needed only a compact size, well-developed muscles, fantastic endurance and a special, bulldog grip of powerful jaws, but later the English bulldog became a wonderful decorative dog is a companion. But back to a century earlier, in the 1700s, when the colonists began to explore the American lands and the New World was filled with adventurers and adventurers. Of course, the immigrants took with them pets, their dogs, and it is here that the ways of the English and American bulldog diverge, since it was in America that the breed developed almost unchanged, retaining its integrity and old-fashionedness.

These dogs were bred only according to their working qualities, farmers did not need just a “beautiful dog”, their families and herds needed reliable protection: there were enough four-legged and two-legged robbers. The brought bulldogs were perfectly suited for this purpose. They hunted with a bulldog, he helped guard the owner’s house and family, in a word, he continued to faithfully serve the person.

At that harsh and dangerous time, the numerous talents of the bulldogs appeared in all their glory: they easily coped with coyotes and wild boars, could repulse armed bandits and confidently dealt with very dangerous and numerous packs of feral dogs, which were often attacked by farmers. By the way, neither bandits nor predatory animals, if they managed to stay alive after the “hot reception” of four-legged athletes, never tried to take revenge and return to the house where they were defeated. Probably, it was the successful fights of the bulldog with predators and other relatives that prompted some farmers to think of using four-legged watchmen as professional fighters.

But “sport” among the Old English bulldogs was not particularly widespread: these dogs were valued and cherished, they were needed for other, more serious and important purposes. From sources of the XVIII-XIX centuries it is known that bulldogs not only honestly guarded the household goods, but also often saved the lives of their owners and their families. In the future, so as not to cause confusion, the Old English Bulldog will be called the American Bulldog, since a companion dog in its homeland has already been registered as an "English Bulldog".

The main breeding centers of the American Bulldog were the southeastern US states: Alabama and Georgia. John D. Johnson, the famous breeder of this breed, claims that his ancestors exported from England to America several real "English bulldogs", which served as the source of the breeding material. He also says that the dogs he owns are authentic Old English bulldogs.

The American Bulldog is not recognized as a breed by such large cynological organizations as FCI, AKC, CKC, ANKC, Kennel Club of Great Britain, but this does not prevent it from successfully developing and gaining more and more adherents, both in the USA and for their the limits. The breed is recognized by UKC, UCI.

However, it can’t do without certain difficulties. The main organizations involved in the breeding and registration of American Bulldogs in the USA are ABA, ARF, NABA, NKC, JDJ and UKC. Such a number of separate organizations, each of which has its own standard, rules for conducting competitions and show examinations, confuses the interpretation of what a modern American bulldog should be like. Therefore, in order to unite and unite the “bulldog” world, the American Bulldog National Alliance (ABNA) was created in the USA in June 1998. The main task of the Alliance is to create an opportunity for all, without exception, owners of American bulldogs to compete with each other in show rings and other competitions, without discrimination due to belonging to a particular organization.

As for this, it was impossible, since under the terms of individual organizations, access to participation in their events was limited for dogs not registered with them. And although many dogs have double registrations, this still did not allow collecting all interested owners of American bulldogs at one event. ABNA officials prepared the breed standard, which is based on the standards used by ABA, NABA, NKC, ARF, taking into account the ideas that exist in the community of owners of American bulldogs.

American Bulldog Health: Things to Look For

Ambul is a real athlete and athlete. American bulldogs most often have good, fabulous health, however, there are two things that you should pay attention to the novice "bulldogger".

It:
- allergic reactions
- a tendency to dysplasia of the joints of the limbs.

Allergies in dogs, as in humans, can be both one-time (goes away on its own after the cessation of contact with the allergen), and chronic (intolerance to certain foods and other irritants). The predisposition to allergies is also due to the fact that American bulldogs are incorrigible gluttons who adore pulling everything in their mouths. To avoid allergies, carefully consult your breeder about feeding your puppy. Find out what kind of food he is used to at home, whether professional food is combined with natural food in his diet, or not, and most importantly, what his mother ate during pregnancy and lactation. If you follow this diet, allergies can be avoided.

As for dysplasia, this is the number one problem for many dog breeders. The American bulldog is not the only dog prone to the appearance of dysplasia of the joints of the hind and forelimbs, therefore, the best prevention of this terrible disease will be, first of all, competent selection. Unfortunately, in modern Russian cynology there are no such laws and requirements that animal mating is carried out strictly in the presence of certificates about the absence of dysplasia in future parents and their ancestors, however today the situation in the domestic livestock population of ambulances is quite optimistic.

Firstly, the quality of dogs and breeds has improved, and secondly, the breed in our country is already quite popular and numerous, which allows us to avoid inbreeding and not to interbreed not the best representatives of the breed, as it was at the dawn of the era of ambulas in Russia. Thirdly, the majority of Russian breeders are in love with the breed they breed and are very decent, advocate for the health of the livestock and most often themselves, without any pressure and control from the outside, check their dogs with a veterinarian. Your breeder is not obliged to present you any medical certificates, however, if you ask about the health status of the puppy's ancestors, an honest and caring owner will advise you in great detail and will certainly give you all the necessary recommendations for the nutrition and prevention of diseases in dogs of this breed.

The working qualities of the American Bulldog

If you study carefully American Bulldog breed standards (and there are several), you will understand how much the working qualities of this dog are valued higher than the quality of the exterior. In any case, this happens in the homeland of the ambulance, in the USA. American Bulldogs are versatile dogs. By virtue of their addition and genetics, they are very mobile, develop tremendous speed, can make unimaginable jumps and sharply, at full speed, turn around and change the trajectory of their movement. Their physical abilities, intelligence and abilities allow us to use this wonderful dog in many ways. Ambul is a great guard for the home and the whole family, and it can also be used in hunting, working with cattle, as a sports dog, and, of course, as a great companion dog.

Difficulties of the American Bulldog

The main "disadvantages" of the amule, although these are not disadvantages, but the peculiarities of the breed, is some stubbornness and unwavering stamina when sorting out relations with your own kind or enemies of the owner. The bulldog will never surrender to the mercy of the winner, it is not for nothing that this breed is a symbol of the US Marine Corps. The following measures will help to properly raise a puppy and adjust his behavior:

1. Early puppy socialization. The faster you start taking him out for a walk and the playground, the better.

2. Your personal leadership skills. The American Bulldog is a dog that is prone to domination, so you must be an authority for it, a “leader in a pack”. For soft-bodied, weak-willed, insecure people, the ambul will not work!

3. Help of professionals. An “American” must undergo an OKD course, and if desired, other training courses, and this should be done with the assistance of a good dog handler. In addition, the puppy should engage on the site and communicate with other dogs in order to instill in him a loyal attitude towards his brothers in the future.

Character Features of the American Bulldog

The American Bulldog is a brave and loyal dog. He adores his master and his household, treats children and other animals very well in his house, is very tender and always ready to give and receive affection and other signs of attention. Possessing a highly developed intellect, the ambul perfectly learns teams, but does not tolerate any violence against himself and does not like long and tedious repetitions. The “American” is not particularly helpful and does not execute commands as fast as, for example, Malinois and other shepherd dogs, but he will never forget what he “learned” from childhood.

The American Bulldog is quite wary of strangers. He is reserved to the friends of the owners, but friendly, but strangers can cause him some kind of internal tension. He clearly divides everyone into “friends” and “strangers,” but he easily distinguishes between imaginary danger and real danger.
